Katelyn's open heart surgery was scheduled for Monday June 21st, the day after Father's Day. We were the second surgery of the day, so we didn't have to be there until 9:00a.m. We arrived at Children's Mercy around 8:30am after dropping the boys off at Tina's house for the day. Dad, Tanya, Sarah, and Mario all met us at the hospital. We were taken back to the prep room for the nurses to check her out one last time. And what do you know- she had developed a rash! The nurses were not sure if Dr. O'Brien would allow surgery to continue, so we had to wait over 2 hrs waiting on him to get out of the operating room. As soon as he saw the rash he said No. My heart sank. Not again. Why.
We had gotten one step closer this time making it even more difficult to handle. I understand they want her perfectly healthy and I do too, it's just such an emotional roller coaster.
So we are now back to waiting. We are supposed to call as soon as the rash is gone and they will get us a 3rd surgery date.
I am a Christ follower, wife to an amazing man, mom to four beautiful children. I try to remember to slow down despite all the chaos of our crazy family, and focus on what matters most. This isn't always easy, but with God's grace I will continue to try and be the best He has called me to be in every area of my life, making memories each and every day.
